View Requirements for BSA Lifeguard

Must be a strong swimmer. Swimming, Lifesaving, Rowing and First Aid merit badges recommended. Register for Periods 1, 2, 3 & 4 and Free Time 1 & 2. Available to adults as well as youth. Certification includes Red Cross Waterfront Lifeguard and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer. $20.00 fee for Red Cross certificates and $10.00 fee for CPR resuscitation mask, if you do not have one. Pay fees in class.

Prerequisites for BSA Lifeguard

Minimum age 15.
Prerequisite swimming requirements:
  • 550 yard swim (front crawl, breaststroke, side stroke & elementary backstroke)
  • Tread water for 2 minutes using only your legs
  • 20 yard swim & brick retrieval from 7–10 ft water in 1 minute 40 seconds
Pretest will be conducted Monday afternoon immediately after lunch.
